The ECI 6 DX MKII from the Norwegian company Electrocompaniet houses a stereo integrated amplifier, a DAC and a streaming module in a single casework. The MKII version brings an updated enclosure with improved rigidity and a new front plate design, and control is possible from an iOS or Android app, a web app or the supplied infrared remote handset.

Key specs that matter

Rated output is 2 x 125 W into 8 ohms, 2 x 200 W into 4 ohms and 2 x 370 W into 2 ohms. The power stage has a bandwidth of 1 Hz to 150 kHz, harmonic distortion below 0.004 percent from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, channel separation above 120 dB and an output impedance under 0.02 ohm, and the damping factor into 8 ohms is quoted as more than 350. Engineering and use context

The converter works at 24 bit and 192 kHz and is preceded by a sample rate converter running at the same resolution. Digital inputs are one coaxial S/PDIF port handling 24 bit and 192 kHz, two Toslink optical ports limited to 24 bit and 96 kHz, and an asynchronous USB input for a computer at up to 24 bit and 192 kHz. The streamer section has 802.11 AC Wi-Fi with MIMO antennas, a Gigabit Ethernet port and a further USB socket for external storage. Supported services and protocols include AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, Qobuz, TIDAL Connect, Roon Ready, JPLAY certification, DLNA, internet radio and Bluetooth. Playable files include FLAC, ALAC, WAV, APE, WMA, MP3, Vorbis and AAC+ at up to 192 kHz and 24 bit, and DSD files are handled up to DSD 128. The standard input reaches 120 W of output from 1.3 V RMS, while a separate home theatre input reaches the same output from 1 V RMS with a fixed gain of 31 dB.

Pairing

Passive loudspeakers with very low impedance dips stay within the amplifier's rated range. Digital sources such as a television or CD transport connect through the optical or coaxial ports, and a network storage drive or a USB disk supplies a local library to the streamer.
