The BasX TA-100 is a stereo integrated amplifier from Emotiva's budget BasX range that puts a preamplifier, an FM tuner, a USB DAC, an MM/MC phono stage plus a dedicated headphone section inside a single box. It shipped with a three-year warranty, and Emotiva describes it as a stereo preamp, DAC and tuner with an integrated amplifier.
Key specs that matter
The power section delivers 50 W RMS per channel into 8 ohms from 20 Hz to 20 kHz at under 0.02% THD, and 90 W per channel into 4 ohms at 1 kHz and under 1% THD. Frequency response is 5 Hz to 50 kHz within 0.04 dB, THD plus noise stays below 0.0015% A-weighted, the noise floor sits more than 115 dB below full output and maximum preamp output is 4 V RMS. Analog inputs are two line-level RCA pairs labelled CD and Aux plus one phono pair switchable between cartridge types. On the digital side there are coaxial and optical S/PDIF at up to 24-bit/192 kHz and a driverless USB input at up to 24-bit/96 kHz. Outputs include a stereo line-level pre-out, two summed full-range subwoofer outputs, 5-way speaker binding posts and a front-panel 3.5 mm headphone jack. The case measures 432 x 67 x 318 mm and weighs 6.8 kg.
Engineering and use context
Amplification is an all-discrete Class A/B design fed by a heavy toroidal power supply. Digital conversion uses an Analog Devices AD1955 chip. The headphone output has its own high-current, direct-coupled stage, and an Intelligent Level Control feature stores separate volume settings for headphones and speakers so that plugging in does not jump to the loudspeaker level. The FM tuner has an external antenna input, 50 presets, manual and automatic tuning and a mono mode for weak stations. A USB-A socket accepts an optional aptX Bluetooth receiver dongle sold separately. Bass, treble and balance controls, a mute function, a dimmable blue display and a backlit volume knob are operated from the front panel or the supplied remote. Mains voltage is sensed automatically between 115 V and 230 V.
Pairing
With output rising substantially into lower loads, the TA-100 can drive both standard and low-impedance loudspeakers. The two subwoofer outputs carry a full-range summed mono signal without bass management, so a subwoofer with its own crossover is required. The pre-out lets a larger power amplifier take over later while the TA-100 keeps its role as source hub for turntable, CD player, computer and TV via optical.
Alternatives
Emotiva's newer BasX TA2+ integrated amplifier raises output to 135 W RMS per channel into 8 ohms and adds HDMI ARC, USB-C and balanced XLR connections.
