The DP-29F is Denon's entry-level fully automatic turntable, designed for listeners returning to vinyl who want a record player that works straight out of the box with almost any system. It combines one-button automatic operation, a factory-fitted moving-magnet cartridge and a switchable built-in phono stage, so no separate phono preamplifier or cartridge alignment is needed to start playing records. It has remained a fixture of Denon's vinyl range for many years.

The platter is belt-driven by a DC servo motor and supports 33 1/3 and 45rpm, with wow and flutter rated at 0.15% WRMS. The platter is die-cast aluminium, chosen for rigidity and an evenly distributed inertial mass that keeps rotation stable. The supplied MM cartridge has a rated output of 2.5mV at 1kHz, and its replacement stylus is the Denon DSN-82. The built-in RIAA phono equaliser raises the signal to a line-level output of 150mV across 20Hz to 20kHz. The chassis measures 360 x 357 x 97mm, weighs 2.8kg and comes with a hinged transparent dust cover.

Engineering and use context

The belt drive isolates the platter from motor vibration, while the DC servo motor holds speed steady against mains fluctuations without manual adjustment. The fully automatic mechanism is the model's main practical advantage - press START and the tonearm lowers onto the lead-in groove, and at the end of the side it lifts, returns to its rest and the platter stops. This removes the most common causes of stylus and record damage, such as a dropped tonearm or a stylus left running in the run-out groove. A manual cueing lifter is also provided, so the stylus can be set down anywhere on the record to start mid-side. The factory-mounted cartridge arrives pre-aligned with tracking force already set, which suits first-time vinyl owners and shared household systems where simplicity matters more than tweaking.

Pairing

A switch on the rear sets the output to line or phono level. With the internal equaliser on, the DP-29F connects to any line input on an integrated amplifier, AV receiver, powered speakers or a soundbar with analogue inputs. With it off, the turntable can feed a dedicated MM phono stage in an amplifier or an external phono preamplifier, which gives a clear upgrade path without replacing the deck. The DSN-82 stylus is user-replaceable, so routine maintenance needs no tools or setup.
