The RS301 is a self-contained hi-fi media player made by the Korean electronics company HiFi Rose. It combines a streamer, integrated amplification and a built-in three-way speaker system in one enclosure, so it works as a complete music and video system without separate speakers or an amplifier. HiFi Rose has since discontinued the RS301.

Key specs that matter

A Sabre ES9018K2M DAC chip converts the digital signal and supports PCM up to 32-bit/384kHz and DSD256. Total power output is 50W. The speaker section has two 20mm tweeters rated at 10W and 93dB into 8 ohms, two 63mm midrange drivers rated at 10W into 8 ohms and a passive dual-radiator woofer at 5W. Control is through a 5-inch multi-touch front panel.

Engineering and use context

For the low frequencies HiFi Rose relies on its patented Dual Passive Radiator Duct Module, designed to work from a small internal cabinet volume. Together with internal piping it forms the Dynamic Super Bass system, which HiFi Rose developed to extend the bass of this compact enclosure without outboard speakers. The touch screen accepts gestures and controls both audio and video playback. YouTube, Tidal, Qobuz and Internet Radio are available directly on the unit.

Because the speakers and amplification are built in, the RS301 needs no power amplifier or loudspeakers. Anyone planning to add a subwoofer or extra speakers should first confirm with HiFi Rose which outputs the unit offers, since it was designed mainly as a self-contained system.
