The Pythos is a network music player and transport from Kyron Audio of Australia, designed to send a bit-perfect stream to an external DAC over USB.

Key specs that matter

Playback covers CD resolution through high-resolution PCM and DSD. A built-in CD drive copies discs to storage, so a physical collection can be added to the library for near instant access to any track.

Engineering and use context

The Pythos has no graphics or video hardware and is operated from a tablet, phone or computer on the same network. Processor functions not needed for playback are disabled, and dedicated processor cores run only the playback engine, so other processes do not interrupt it. The memory is ECC RAM, which can detect and correct single bit errors that could otherwise corrupt the audio stream.
