The HzCORE is a dedicated music server from HzProject, a young South Korean company that concentrates on servers, streamers and network isolators. It arrives as a plug-and-play unit with Roon ROCK pre-installed, acting as a Roon Core with Roon Streamer functions, so the owner needs no computer setup to run it.
Key specs that matter
An Intel N5105 CPU, picked for its generous cache and low thermal output, handles processing and is backed by 64GB of DDR4-3200 memory. The operating system lives on its own 256GB MLC SSD, while the music library sits on a separate 2.5-inch SATA drive offered in 1TB, 4TB or 8TB sizes. Connections are deliberately minimal, with one gigabit Ethernet port that carries music in Roon's RAAT format to Roon Ready devices, one USB audio output for DACs that are not Roon Ready, and a standard IEC mains inlet. The 4TB version launched at 6,900 GBP, 8,300 USD or 8,400 EUR.
Engineering and use context
The unit draws on a dual linear supply with two toroidal transformers, each wrapped in an aluminium and copper jacket for shielding. It feeds five independently regulated rails for the mainboard, the Ethernet and CPU clock, the OCXO and the SSD storage. An oven-controlled crystal oscillator rated at 10 ppb accuracy has two outputs, clocking the motherboard and the Ethernet section separately, and the clock board has its own supply and sits in a layered enclosure of aluminium and wood. HzProject claims a noise floor below 10 microvolts RMS across 10 Hz to 100 kHz. The library SSD is housed in its own CNC-machined aluminium cage, and the main chassis is machined from aluminium panels 15 mm thick. Cooling is fanless, so the server runs without mechanical noise. The chassis alone weighs 10.5 kg and rests on three partially decoupled feet fitted with Stillpoints isolators in a tripod outrigger layout.
Pairing
An optional aluminium isolation platform adds a second stage of decoupling beneath the feet and brings the total weight to 14.5 kg, priced at 790 GBP, 870 USD or 880 EUR. Because output is limited to Ethernet and USB, the HzCORE suits a system built around a Roon Ready network streamer or a USB DAC over a wired network. HzProject has also been preparing a version of the server that runs Audirvana Core Player instead of Roon, for owners who manage their library in Audirvana rather than in a Roon subscription.
Alternatives
HzProject has no other music server, and its only other product is the HzLAN network isolator.
