The Golden Gate 2 is a tubed DSD DAC from LampizatOr, built as the next generation of the brand's universally praised original Golden Gate - a design that reigned for three years as the top choice of critical audiophiles worldwide before being superseded by the flagship Pacific. Rather than discontinuing the cult-followed original, designer Lukasz Fikus's team trickled down as much Pacific technology as feasible to create Golden Gate 2, a solid performer at a lower price than the flagship.

Key specs that matter

The PCB architecture combines R2R conversion with DSD512 (8x DSD) support, alongside a redesigned PCM engine and auto-switching between DSD and PCM formats - a genuine practical improvement over the original Golden Gate's manual format switching. A completely redesigned heater circuit is more stable, precise and runs cooler than before, enabling a 5-position heater switch that supports roughly seven different DHT (Directly Heated Triode) tube types, including 300B, PX-4, PX-25, 101D, 45 and 242, with a mechanical socket adapter also accommodating the gigantic KR-T-100 triodes. Many review samples and factory-upgraded units ship with KR Audio PX25 output tubes and a KR Audio 5U4G rectifier. Both balanced and single-ended outputs are available, with selectable high/low gain and a built-in volume control letting the Golden Gate 2 function as a genuine DAC-preamplifier combination; an RCA analogue input option is also available.
