The nuZeo 8w is an active 15 inch subwoofer from Nubert, the German loudspeaker maker, and it completes the active nuZeo series, alongside the nuZeo 3, 4, 6c, 11 and 15 speakers. It was presented on 6 May 2025 at EUR 3,390, and the US price is USD 3,490.

Key specs that matter

One front-firing 381 mm woofer with a carbon-fibre cone works in a bass-reflex cabinet with a rear port. Nubert gives the amplifier as 600 W rated power, 1,200 W continuous and 3,200 W music power. Frequency response reaches down to 19 Hz at -3 dB and 18 Hz at -6 dB, and up to 115 Hz at -3 dB and 135 Hz at -6 dB. Connections are one XLR input, one RCA input and one XLR output, and X-Connect Surround provides a wireless link. The cabinet measures 75 x 42 x 60 cm, or 80 x 51.5 x 68.5 cm with its feet, and the subwoofer weighs 70 kg. Black and white piano lacquer are the two finishes offered.

Engineering and use context

The large cone has a wide radiating area, so it moves a large volume of air at a given excursion, which is what deep bass at high levels requires. The carbon-fibre cone is stiff, so it moves as a solid piston rather than flexing. The rear port extends the output below the range a sealed box of this size would reach. Nubert designed the enclosure to resonate little and to limit vibration, and its mass keeps it still while the woofer works. Adjustable traverse feet level the subwoofer on uneven floors. The three power figures describe different conditions, with the rated figure being the one the amplifier sustains, while the music power figure refers to short peaks. All filtering and level functions are controlled by DSP, and setup is done in the X-Remote app on a phone or tablet. The XLR output passes the signal on, so several subwoofers can be chained. With the wireless X-Connect Surround link, no signal cable has to run across the room between the subwoofer and a nuZeo speaker or other Nubert source.

Pairing

The nuZeo speakers link to the subwoofer wirelessly. Other speakers work with it through the XLR or RCA input fed from a preamplifier, integrated amplifier or AV processor. Paired with the nuZeo 3, whose own output falls at 44 Hz, the subwoofer adds more than an octave of extension below it, and its size and output suit larger rooms rather than small spaces.

Alternatives

The Nubert nuSub XW-1200 is the top model of the XW subwoofer range, rated from 19 to 150 Hz at ±3 dB.
