The Townus 100 is a passive three-way floorstanding speaker that Canton describes as the top model of its Townus line and designed for larger rooms. It entered production in November 2023 and is built at the company's base in Weilrod in the German state of Hesse. The pair was listed at EUR 3,198 in lacquer and EUR 3,398 in walnut veneer, and Canton's German shop now sells a single speaker for EUR 1,699. The passive Townus range also includes the Townus 90 tower, the Townus 50 centre speaker, compact and on-wall models, and the active Townus 12 Sub.
Key specs that matter
Four drivers sit on the 230 mm wide baffle - a 25 mm tweeter with an aluminium oxide ceramic dome, a 174 mm titanium midrange and two 192 mm titanium woofers, the three cones mounted on Wave surrounds. Crossover points are 170 Hz and 3.2 kHz. Frequency range is 20 to 40,000 Hz, impedance 4 to 8 ohm, and efficiency is given as 89 dB. Power handling is 180 W nominal and 340 W music. The cabinet measures 27 x 110 x 37 cm, or 112 cm tall including the base, and one speaker weighs 24.6 kg. Buyers can choose black high gloss, white satin or walnut veneer, and Canton grants five years of warranty on it.
Engineering and use context
The enclosure is MDF with cross bracing, damped with synthetic wool in the midrange section and synthetic fleece behind the woofers. Its rounded edges are meant to smooth dispersion off the cabinet. A shaped waveguide around the tweeter controls how the dome couples to the baffle, and a phase plug sits in front of it. The midrange driver is mounted high on the upper baffle, close to seated ear height, so the woofers below handle only the lowest octaves. Canton lists its patented SC technology and double cones among the driver features. The bass reflex channels are hidden underneath in a downfire layout, venting onto curved rubber hemispheres on the plinth, which rests on four height-adjustable metal feet with M6 threads for spikes. Diamond-cut aluminium rings fix the drivers without visible screws, and the fabric covers attach magnetically.
Pairing
Because the impedance falls to 4 ohm, the Townus 100 is best matched with a solid-state amplifier that is comfortable with 4 ohm loads. Gold-plated bi-wiring terminals allow separate cable runs to the woofers and the upper section. For surround use, the Townus 50 centre and the Townus 12 Sub complete the set.
Alternatives
The Canton Townus 90 is the more compact Townus tower, fitted with two 174 mm titanium woofers and 300 W music power.
