The Remiga 1 Dia is a passive floorstanding speaker with three frequency bands, made by Alare Labs of Italy, a company whose founders are former Audia Flight engineers. Among the two versions of the Remiga 1 it is the one with a diamond tweeter, while its sibling, the Remiga 1 Be, carries a beryllium dome in an otherwise identical cabinet. Alare backs it with three years of warranty covering materials and workmanship, and presents the Remiga 1 as derived from the larger Remiga 2, following the same principles in a more compact form.

Key specs that matter

Treble is reproduced by a 25 mm tweeter with a diamond membrane, the same diameter as the beryllium dome of the Remiga 1 Be, so the tweeter material is the only difference between the two versions listed by the maker. Beneath it a 125 mm midrange with a pure ceramic diaphragm from the Cell series of Accuton covers the middle band from its own enclosure packed with special aramid fibre wool that absorbs rear radiation of the diaphragm, and the bass is split between two woofers of 200 mm and 170 mm diameter using polypropylene cones. Rated frequency response extends from 35 Hz to 30 kHz with a tolerance of 0 to -3 dB, and the sensitivity figure is 87 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m. The load is 4 ohm nominal with a minimum of 3.3 ohm. Cabinet height is 130 cm, width 30 cm and depth 58 cm, and each unit weighs 100 kg out of its shipping crate.

Engineering and use context

The woofers load into a tapered transmission line. Alare builds the enclosure from several wood types stacked as a sandwich and bonded by special damping glue, giving the panels constrained layer damping, and a steel frame inside the box braces the walls to limit vibration. The crossover is wired point to point using silver-plated solid copper conductor, with its components carried on a non-conductive board rather than a conventional printed circuit. Customers can order the Remiga 1 Dia in glossy red, brown, gray, white or black, as well as in optical black, California burl or Amara ebony, eight finishes in total.

Pairing

Its impedance dip and moderate efficiency suggest transistor electronics that remain stable into difficult loads and deliver plenty of current.

Alternatives

The Alare Labs Remiga 2 Dia is the bigger diamond-tweeter floorstander from the brand, using larger carbon sandwich woofers and a larger Accuton midrange in a taller cabinet.
