The M1 is a three-way active floorstanding loudspeaker from HOUCHMAND Audio, the German luxury audio brand whose manufactory is in Pforzheim, where every unit is handcrafted to order. It was first displayed at High End Munich in 2022, refined over three years and shown again at High End 2024, and it has been available to order since March 2025. It is sold as the M1 System, two M1 speakers with the Monobloc Player, at GBP 58,995 or EUR 58,500.

Key specs that matter

HOUCHMAND pairs a coaxial midrange and tweeter driver with a bass section in a three-way layout, and each speaker includes its own amplification and DSP. It measures 103 x 19 x 25 cm and weighs 38.3 kg. HOUCHMAND has not published driver sizes, amplifier power or frequency response. The Monobloc Player is a streaming hub with preamplifier functions, streaming Qobuz, TIDAL, Deezer and Spotify. Its wired link to the speakers runs at up to 24 bit and 192 kHz and its wireless link at up to 24 bit and 96 kHz. The player takes optical S/PDIF and HDMI ARC signals and reads USB or SSD storage, and outputs are analogue RCA and coaxial S/PDIF. The player measures 31.5 x 22.9 x 5.2 cm and weighs 11 kg.

Engineering and use context

HOUCHMAND's Purity Path Technology carries the signal from the player to the speakers, wired or wireless, and replaces the chain of separate amplifiers and speaker cables. Because each speaker has its own amplification and DSP, the crossover works in the digital domain and each driver section gets its own amplifier channel. In the coaxial unit the tweeter is mounted in the middle of the midrange driver, giving a single point of origin for both. The wireless link lets the speakers be placed without a signal cable running to them, with only mains power needed. The optional S1 subwoofer accepts an analogue or digital RCA input and costs GBP 19,995 or EUR 19,500, and the M1 System with the S1 costs GBP 78,990. The player is controlled by an app for iOS and Android and by a remote. Finishes include 24ct gold, 18ct rose gold, platinum, ruthenium and piano lacquer, with custom RAL and NCS colours, which place the M1 as much in interior design as in hi-fi.

Pairing

The M1 System is complete with its player, so it needs only digital sources, a television over HDMI ARC or a network connection for streaming. The S1 subwoofer adds deeper bass for large rooms.

Alternatives

HOUCHMAND makes no other floorstanding loudspeaker, as the M1 is its only speaker model besides the S1 subwoofer.
