Diapason of Brescia, Italy, builds the Dynamis with three drive units in a tall cabinet and presents it as the end point of Alessandro Schiavi's thirty years of work at the firm, designed as a reference-level floorstander. It belongs to the Reference Collection together with the Didascalia and the Astera, while the Adamantes V, Karis III and Micra III Excel make up the Classic Collection. European pricing has been given at about EUR 50,000 per pair.
Key specs that matter
Each cabinet holds one driver per band. A 29 mm silk soft dome tweeter handles the treble, a 180 mm paper midrange with a Nextel coating covers the middle of the band, and a 300 mm aluminium woofer with a fibreglass dust cap takes the bass. Diapason gives 25 Hz to 30,000 Hz and a sensitivity of 89 dB SPL at 2.83 V and 1 m. Each speaker weighs 100 kg and measures 450 mm wide, 685 mm deep and 1,275 mm tall. The enclosure is a reflex design.
Engineering and use context
The cabinet has 14 sides, and only two of them are parallel to each other. Diapason says the lack of parallel walls strongly reduces internal resonances and removes standing waves inside the box. Faceted cabinets at Diapason go back to the Adamantes, which followed the Prelude in 1989. The shell is high-density MDF finished with a layer of glass reinforced plastic for long-term stiffness, and the assembly method was developed over years of building the Astera, Adamantes and Karis. The front baffle slopes back so that the three drivers are aligned in time. The crossover is wired entirely by hand, point to point, with Van den Hul cable and without a printed circuit board. At the base the foam-lined reflex port is angled to fire into the floor, and anti-scratch castors let the heavy cabinet be moved across the floor, with spikes available in their place. Jumpers on the rear panel change the bass and treble level in three steps each. Italian craftsmen apply the lacquer, offered in metallic bronze, glossy white, dark grey, China red and metallic silver, or in another colour to order.
Pairing
Nominal impedance is 4 ohms, with a published minimum of 3.4 ohms at 200 Hz. Diapason intended the Dynamis for medium and larger listening rooms.
Alternatives
The Diapason Didascalia is the other floorstander of the Reference Collection, a two-way design with a soft dome tweeter, a paper mid-bass driver and two passive radiators rated at 8 ohms.
