The Dymension DM60 is a mid-size bipolar tower from Definitive Technology, sitting in the Dymension Series between the passive DM40 and the larger DM70 and DM80 towers. North American sales of the series started on February 22, 2023, and the DM60 was priced at USD 1,499 per speaker or USD 2,999 per pair. Like the other powered towers of the range, it carries its own built-in subwoofer, so a separate bass cabinet is not required.

Key specs that matter

The driver complement includes two 1 inch aluminium oxide dome tweeters, one facing forward and one to the rear, and four 4.5 inch BDSS midrange and mid-bass drivers. Bass comes from an 8 inch composite polymer woofer driven by a Class D MOSFET amplifier with DSP, rated at 180 W continuous and 250 W peak, and loaded by two 3XR bass radiators. The rated frequency response is 34 Hz to 23 kHz, while the -10 dB figure is 30 Hz to 30 kHz. Sensitivity is 88 dB and nominal impedance is 4 ohm, with the brand describing the speaker as compatible with 8 ohm electronics. The recommended amplifier range is 50 to 300 W. With its outriggers attached the cabinet measures 1153 x 287 x 349 mm, and weight is about 27.2 kg.

Engineering and use context

Definitive Technology calls the layout 3XR Architecture, combining the powered woofer with the passive radiators. A patented Intelligent Bass Control circuit blends the subwoofer section with the mids and highs, and a patented Linear Response Waveguide widens off-axis dispersion. The driver array is fully balanced in bipolar form. On the back, a switch lowers the rear tweeter by 6 dB for a more forward-focused presentation when the tower stands close to a wall. The MDF cabinet wears a black cloth grille that is acoustically transparent and not removable, and spikes and pads are supplied for the feet. The DM60 is ready for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X once the optional DM95 height module, priced at USD 799 per pair, is fitted on top. The warranty runs for 5 years.

Pairing

Since the built-in woofer has its own amplification, the AV receiver or amplifier only drives the passive upper section. The DM10, DM20 and DM30 centre channels from the same series complete a multichannel front stage, and all of these models share the same black cloth finish, with the powered subwoofer sections found in the three upper towers.

Alternatives

The Definitive Technology Dymension DM70 sits one step above in the tower range, with a 10 inch powered woofer at USD 1,999 each.
