Floorstanding loudspeakers — Audio Pro A48 W

The A48 W is an active stereo pair of floorstanding speakers from Swedish brand Audio Pro, introduced at IFA Berlin on 5 September 2025 as part of the company's W-Generation range. That launch also covered the A10 MkII W, A15 W, A28 W, A38 W, the C5 MkII W, C10 MkII W and C20 W, and the Drumfire II W and Drumfire D-2 W. The UK price is GBP 950 (EUR 1,100) and the US price is USD 1,250 per set, and the cabinets come in black, white or walnut veneer.

Key specs that matter

Each tower carries two 5.25 inch woofers in a bass reflex enclosure plus a 2 inch BMR (balanced mode radiator) driver working as the tweeter. A digital Class D amplifier supplies 2 x 130 W and 2 x 30 W, which together make up the 320 W total quoted for the set. The crossover sits at 700 Hz. Streaming runs at up to 24 bit and 96 kHz, and Audio Pro gives the range as 35 to 24,000 Hz at plus or minus 6 dB. Each cabinet measures 870 x 215 x 265 mm (height, width, depth). Operating consumption is 14.2 W, with standby under 0.5 W and network standby at 1.85 W.

Engineering and use context

Only the left speaker contains the amplifier and network electronics, and it drives the passive right cabinet over a 4 m four-pole Speakon cable included in the box, so only the left unit needs a mains socket. Setting the BMR handover this low lets that wide-dispersion driver cover most of the vocal band, while the woofers take care of everything below. Compared with the original A48, the W version gets an improved BMR tweeter, a maximum output raised by 10 to 15 dB, a revised look and control through a new app built on the Linkplay platform. Three multiroom systems are supported - AirPlay 2, Google Cast and Audio Pro's own - and the app offers bass and treble adjustment, a virtual surround mode and a midnight mode. Five preset buttons store playlists or radio stations, and signals arriving over Bluetooth or the analogue input can be re-streamed to other Audio Pro speakers. A remote is supplied, and magnetic fabric fronts can be removed. No voice assistant is built in.

Pairing

A television links through HDMI ARC, and the rear panel also has an optical S/PDIF input for PCM, an RCA line input for a turntable preamp or CD player, and a subwoofer output. Wi-Fi covers 2.4 and 5 GHz bands and Bluetooth is version 4.2. The app handles Qobuz, Deezer, Amazon Music, TuneIn, vTuner and Tidal, with Spotify Connect and Tidal Connect also available. Local files are playable through the app.

Alternatives

The original Audio Pro A48 used the same tower format and total amplifier power, HDMI ARC and Chromecast before the W version replaced it.
