The Viper Monitor is a compact stand-mount loudspeaker and the first speaker model from Virtual HiFi, a brand founded by Grzegorz Rulka, who also runs the Polish hi-fi marques Cube Audio and Qualio. Its cabinet is produced by 3D printing rather than cut from wood panels, and the design goal is full-range output with bass extension below 40 Hz from a box only 32 cm tall. Price is EUR 6,900 through local distribution or EUR 4,400 plus VAT when bought factory direct.

Key specs that matter

Virtual HiFi states a frequency range of 35 Hz to 31 kHz, a sensitivity of 83 dB and a nominal impedance of 4 ohm. Each speaker measures 17 x 32 x 22 cm including footers and binding posts, and weighs 11 kg. The driver complement is a Dayton Audio Epique 150 mm carbon fibre mid-bass unit with 14 mm of linear excursion, two 180 mm Epique carbon fibre passive radiators mounted on the cabinet sides and a Mundorf AMT tweeter working as a dipole, radiating to the front and rear. Five finishes are listed - Black, White, Grey, Beige and Yellow.

Engineering and use context

Every enclosure wall is 10 mm thick PETG, printed in a pyramidal internal structure intended to raise rigidity and reduce resonances compared with conventional wood-based boxes. Each enclosure takes more than 120 hours to produce and receives a satin surface texture, and the textured outer skin is also intended to act as an acoustic diffuser. Isolation of the AMT tweeter from the box is handled by a 3D-printed elastomer connector made of TPU, while its large diaphragm area is meant to widen dispersion. Internal parts include Duelund wiring, Mundorf capacitors and WBT binding posts. According to Virtual HiFi, the Viper fits rooms of roughly 8 to 25 m2. A built-in 80 Hz high-pass filter is provided so the speaker can be integrated with a subwoofer when further bass extension is wanted.

Pairing

With low sensitivity and a low impedance, Virtual HiFi recommends an amplifier of around 200 watts per channel. The high-pass option also lets a separate subwoofer take over the lowest octaves, relieving both the main amplifier and the mid-bass driver.

Alternatives

Virtual HiFi does not currently make another bookshelf loudspeaker besides the Viper.
