The Unica is a small two-way standmount in the Natura line of Xavian, a Czech loudspeaker company owned by the Italian-born Roberto Barletta. Cabinets are made to order and finished by hand by a carpentry team in Prague. The model grew out of more than a decade of work on the earlier compact Perla and Joy, and the company places it at the bottom of the Natura series, beneath the Perla and the Joy. The launch price was about EUR 990 per pair (24,990 CZK), varying with exchange rates, and each pair carries a warranty of five years. A floorstanding Grande Unica with an extra bass driver shares the name.

Key specs that matter

Both drivers carry the AudioBarletta name and are produced in Italy to a design drawn up specifically for this model - a 150 mm mid-bass unit with a polypropylene membrane and a copper shorting ring, and a 26 mm impregnated soft-dome tweeter. The crossover point sits at 2,490 Hz. Xavian quotes a response of 52 Hz to 20,000 Hz at -3 dB on axis, a nominal impedance of 8 ohm and a sensitivity of 87 dB measured at 2.83 V and 1 m. The cabinet stands 327 mm tall, 200 mm wide and 280 mm deep, and each speaker weighs 7 kg.

Engineering and use context

Instead of MDF, the enclosure uses slabs of solid oak 23 mm thick, shaped with traditional carpentry techniques into the curved forms used across the Natura series, with radiused corners and coated with a modern varnish that leaves the grain visible. Buyers can choose natural oak, matte black or matte white. The damped bass-reflex box breathes through a flared opening in the baffle instead of the back panel, which Xavian chose so that the speaker may stand near a wall, on a shelf or on a table without further adjustment. The crossover is a second-order network made of only five parts in total, all sourced from Jantzen. For owners who prefer dedicated stands, the maker suggests a stand height of 60 to 80 cm. A single pair of gold-plated screw terminals at the rear takes spade lugs, banana plugs or bare wire, so bi-wiring is not offered.

Pairing

Xavian gives a recommended amplifier power of 30 to 100 W per channel, and the nominal load places modest current demands on the partnering amplifier. One speaker cable run per side is all the single terminal pair allows, and the rated sensitivity is higher than average by the maker's own description.

Alternatives

The Xavian Perla is another two-way solid oak standmount with a woofer of the same size, rated at 88 dB and priced from EUR 1,990 per pair.
