The Sound 2 Pro is a compact powered speaker from Xiaomi, launched in China in January 2026 at 1,399 yuan, roughly EUR 170, with pre-orders opening on JD.com on 15 January. It is a smaller and cheaper sibling of the Sound 2 Max and was released only in the Chinese market at launch, with no international date confirmed. Xiaomi styled it after the Bauhaus school, with straight lines, a metal grille and interchangeable magnetic front panels, and optional stands are offered. Xiaomi pitches it for smart TVs in a home cinema, for PCs and notebooks at work and for phones and tablets.

Key specs that matter

Inside, a mid-woofer runs on a 40 W amplifier channel and a tweeter on a 20 W channel, for 60 W in total per speaker. Frequency response is 53 Hz to 21.7 kHz, or 57 Hz to 21.2 kHz within 2.5 dB, and maximum output reaches 96.3 dB SPL. Wireless links are Bluetooth 5.2 with LHDC support and dual-band Wi-Fi 6. Each speaker measures 142.5 x 107.5 x 263.1 mm and weighs 2.1 kg.

Engineering and use context

The housing combines plastic parts with a sprayed metallic paint finish, whereas the Sound 2 Max uses a one-piece die-cast metal body, measures 197.6 x 135.3 x 363.8 mm and costs 1,999 yuan. Giving each driver its own amplifier channel lets the built-in electronics split the signal before amplification. Two units can form a stereo pair, and up to four can be linked through HyperOS, Xiaomi's operating system. The speaker also works as a smart home hub, with a central gateway and Xiaomi Mesh 2.0 support for other Xiaomi devices. Xiaomi lists spatial audio calibration and sound field reconstruction among the functions. Physical buttons handle play, pause and volume, a multi-colour LED shows status, and a double press switches the microphone off. A smartphone app handles setup and EQ. Voice control relies on XiaoAI, which works in Chinese, so part of the feature set is limited outside China. The dual-band Wi-Fi link is used for low-latency lossless playback, while the RCA input takes an analogue source and the USB-C port a digital one directly from a computer.

Pairing

As an active design it needs no separate amplifier. A pair suits a desktop computer or a TV in a small room of about 20 m2, while phones and tablets can stream to it over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.

Alternatives

The Xiaomi Sound 2 Max is a larger three-way speaker with two opposed woofers and a weight of 8.1 kg.
