The KIN ONE is a small passive two-way stand-mount speaker sold under KIN by Totem, the line that Totem Acoustic of Canada set up as an entry route into its catalogue with younger listeners in mind. Its cabinet takes cues from the Element Fire v2 design, and the speaker is engineered and handcrafted in Canada with customised proprietary drivers. Totem positions it as a gateway into high-end audio, and the ported cabinet follows a classic two-way layout. Launch pricing was USD 599 or CAD 699 per pair.

Key specs that matter

A 1 inch titanium infused soft dome tweeter works with a 4 inch MHEX woofer. Totem quotes 65 Hz to 22 kHz within 3 dB when the speaker is placed properly, a sensitivity of 89 dB and a nominal load of 6 ohm. Recommended amplifier power runs from 20 to 100 W RMS. The enclosure measures 12.7 cm wide, 24.3 cm high and about 15.9 cm deep at the bottom, narrowing to roughly 13.3 cm deep at the top, and each unit weighs 2.83 kg. Five satin finishes are offered - orange, blue, pink, white and black - which Totem described as a first for its colour strategy.

Engineering and use context

MHEX stands for Multiple Strata Hex Cone. A hexagonal central core is sandwiched between two synthetic skins, which Totem says makes the cone stiffer than metal while keeping it quick to respond. Only seven precision components make up the second order filter, which splits the band at 2.5 kHz. Behind the drivers sits a long L-shaped port intended to suppress cabinet resonances, and it lets the output reach about 40 Hz at minus 12 dB. The tapered cabinet depth is part of the Element Fire v2 influence. Totem claims wide dispersion on both vertical and horizontal axes. Totem advises about 8 to 60 cm from the rear wall and about 0.9 to 3.7 m between the pair, plus a break-in period of 50 to 100 hours. A threaded insert of 1/4 inch 20 on the back accepts a wall bracket, and magnetic grilles come with each pair.

Pairing

The modest power window suits compact integrated amplifiers and streaming amplifiers of moderate output. Totem itself sells the KIN ONE as a two-channel set with the KIN AMP, a Bluetooth stereo amplifier from the same line, which keeps the system to two small boxes plus the speakers.

Alternatives

The KIN Monitor is another passive bookshelf model under the KIN name, using a metal alloy dome and a natural hybrid woofer in a cabinet 26.97 cm tall at USD 699 per pair.
