The Børresen 01 is the entry edition of the most compact 0 series model, built by the Danish firm Børresen Acoustics, which was founded in 2018 and is now part of Audio Group Denmark alongside Aavik, Ansuz and Axxess. This two-way stand-mount costs EUR 29,700 per pair and sits below the Cryo Edition and the Silver Supreme Edition, which reuse the same cabinet and driver layout with treated or upgraded metal parts.

Key specs that matter

The 4.5-inch mid-bass unit uses a cone built as a sandwich - a 4 mm Nomex honeycomb core between two layers of unwoven Toray carbon fibre. Above it sits a dipole planar ribbon tweeter with a moving mass of 0.01 g, handing over at about 2,500 Hz. Børresen rates the pair at 50 Hz to 50 kHz, 86 dB sensitivity per watt and a minimum impedance above 6 ohm, and asks for more than 50 W of amplification. The cabinet is 36.8 cm high, 18.4 cm wide and 41.5 cm deep and weighs 11.5 kg.

Engineering and use context

What defines this model is the patented iron-free motor in the cone driver. Instead of a steel pole and plate, four opposing neodymium N52 ring magnets compress the magnetic flux across solid copper pole pieces. With no iron in the path, voice-coil inductance falls to about 0.04 mH, roughly one tenth of a conventional driver. In the standard 01 these copper parts are left untreated, which is the main difference from the dearer editions. The tweeter also uses Super-Neodymium N52 magnets and sits in its own vented compartment with two side vents and a rear port. The enclosure has a lute-shaped profile, a rigid HDF baffle that detaches without visible screws, and a reflex port with internal diffusers to limit reflections from the rear wall. Drivers and crossovers are built in-house. Børresen states that the speakers can stand within 40 cm of the back wall.

Pairing

The moderate sensitivity and the stated power minimum point toward transistor amplification with some reserve instead of a few-watt tube amp, and the benign load keeps current demand moderate. Audio Group Denmark also offers Aavik electronics, Ansuz cables and Ansuz resonance control products. Each cabinet carries just one terminal pair, ruling out split-cable or two-amplifier connection, and a single cable per channel suffices.
