Starke Sound, a company founded in Southern California in 2009, designed the Beta5 as a two-way bookshelf model and the entry point to the Beta Series, which also includes the Beta5C centre channel with twin 5.25-inch woofers, the slimmer Beta5W on-wall variant and the larger Beta7. The list price is USD 499 per pair, and three finishes are offered - Shadow ash Black, Euro oak White and Aoki flaxen Grey - each pairing a satin painted baffle with a wood grain cabinet.

Key specs that matter

A 29 mm tweeter with a large voice coil sits above a 5.25-inch woofer, and the enclosure vents through a rear port. Starke quotes 45 Hz to 23 kHz at minus 3 dB, a sensitivity of 86 dB measured with 2.83 V at 1 m, and a nominal impedance of 4 ohm. Maximum output is rated at 108 dB SPL at 1 m, and the recommended amplifier power spans 30 to 150 W. Each cabinet measures 302 x 182 x 330 mm (height, width, depth) and weighs 6.8 kg. A pair ships in one box with a gross weight of 16.5 kg.

Engineering and use context

A dry-carbon sandwich forms the woofer cone, and both drivers use neodymium magnets. Starke Sound's proprietary HEMF motor technology, short for High Efficiency Magnetic Field, is built into the woofer. The crossover is a two-way network that the company says was designed around phase coherence and controlled transient response, and internal vibration control is used in the cabinet to limit unwanted resonance. According to Starke, the Beta5 borrows engineering principles from its larger models while keeping a small footprint for desks, shelves and compact stereo or surround setups.

Pairing

Starke developed custom EQ profiles for the Beta5 on the Eversolo Play platform, covering impedance optimisation, power management and placement compensation for stereo, surround and gaming use. The speakers were sold in bundles with the Eversolo Play, at USD 1,098 with the standard edition and USD 1,198 with the version that adds a CD drive. Outside that ecosystem, a stereo amplifier that is stable into its low nominal impedance and delivers power within the recommended window is the practical match. Eversolo profiles were also prepared for the larger Beta7, so the same streamer setup carries over if a system later moves up the series. In a surround system the Beta5C and Beta5W come from the same series and use the same woofer size.

Alternatives

The Starke Sound M1 is the core bookshelf model of the HALO Series, with a Diamaze28 beryllium tweeter, a MaxCarbon65 woofer and a first-order crossover.
