Key specs that matter

A 12 inch woofer with a 2.56 inch voice coil works with a 1.35 inch compression driver whose diaphragm is PEEK, crossing over at 1.6 kHz. The Class D bi-amplifier delivers 1,500 W in total, 1,060 W to the woofer and 468 W to the compression driver. Frequency response is 51 Hz to 20 kHz at -3 dB and 48 Hz to 20 kHz at -10 dB, peak level is 132 dB SPL and coverage is 90 degrees horizontal by 60 degrees vertical. The onboard three-channel mixer has two XLR and TRS combo inputs for microphone or line, with 30 kOhm impedance and a maximum of +14 dBu, and a 3.5 mm stereo aux input. Bluetooth 5.0 includes a TWS Bridge Mode, and a balanced XLR output carries the mix. Mains input is 100 to 240 V AC. The speaker measures 61.9 x 36.0 x 35.1 cm and weighs 19.5 kg.

Engineering and use context

A compression driver couples a small diaphragm to a horn, which gives much higher efficiency than a dome tweeter and lets the speaker reach high levels, and PEEK is a stiff, heat-resistant plastic for the diaphragm. The 90 by 60 degree pattern spreads sound widely across an audience while limiting what goes to the ceiling and floor. DSP handles gain, volume, high and low equaliser adjustment of ±10 dB, voicing presets for talk, music, main PA and wedge duty and an output limiter that protects the drivers. A 2.6 inch colour LCD shows settings and metering. The TWS Bridge Mode pairs two speakers wirelessly as a stereo set. The enclosure is moulded H-PP plastic with a 1.2 mm steel grille, and a passive radiator cools the amplifier. The pole socket has two positions, 0 and 7.5 degrees, so the speaker can be angled down towards listeners, and M10 points, two on top and one at the back, allow suspension. Handles on the top and side help with transport.

Pairing

A microphone and an instrument or mixer connect directly, and the XLR output feeds a second speaker or an AIR XD subwoofer.

Alternatives

The PreSonus AIR XD 15 steps up to a 15 inch woofer that extends to 40 Hz.
