The RIG R5 Spear Pro HS is a wired over-ear gaming headset from Nacon, sold under its RIG gaming brand. Announced in October 2025, it is the PlayStation edition of the R5 Pro series and carries an official Sony licence for the PS5, with support for the console's Tempest 3D AudioTech. A sister HX edition is licensed for Xbox and ships with a one-year Dolby Atmos subscription. The launch price was USD 69.99 in the US and EUR 79.90 in Europe, and the headset comes in black.

Key specs that matter

Each ear cup holds a 40 mm dynamic driver with a laminated graphene coated diaphragm. Nacon quotes a frequency response of 20 Hz to 40 kHz, an impedance of 32 ohm, a sensitivity of 117.5 dB SPL per volt and total harmonic distortion below 0.5 percent. The boom microphone is a uni-directional cardioid capsule covering 50 Hz to 15 kHz, with -44 dBV/Pa sensitivity and an SNR greater than 42 dB. The headset connects through a 1.5 m cable ending in a four-pole 3.5 mm plug, and an inline control adjusts the volume.

Engineering and use context

Graphene is a very stiff and light material, and laminating it onto the driver diaphragm is meant to keep the cone from flexing at high frequencies. Nacon credits the coating for the extended upper limit and low distortion of an inexpensive driver. The low impedance and high sensitivity let the headset reach useful levels from a controller jack or a phone without a separate amplifier. The microphone boom flips up to mute and has a metal mesh pop filter in front of the capsule to reduce plosives. RIG's SNAP+LOCK system holds parts in place with magnets, so the memory foam fabric ear cushions and the outer side plates of the cups can be swapped without tools, and third-party cup shells can also be fitted. The headband is lined with memory foam under a soft-touch finish, the arms adjust for size and the cups fold flat for transport. Because the connection is analogue, the Tempest 3D processing happens inside the PS5 and reaches the headset through the controller.

Pairing

The four-pole plug connects straight to a DualSense or DualShock controller, a PS4, a PC or a mobile device with a headset jack, carrying both the headphone and microphone signals. A PC with separate headphone and microphone sockets needs a splitter adapter.

Alternatives

The Nacon RIG R5 Spear Max HD is the wired R5 model with pure graphene drivers and a USB-C DAC rated at 32-bit/384 kHz.
