The QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) are closed-back, over-ear wireless headphones with active noise cancellation from Bose, the American company based in Framingham, Massachusetts. Released in 2025 at USD 449, they follow the first QuietComfort Ultra Headphones of 2023 and add a new Cinema mode, Bluetooth 5.4 and wired lossless playback over USB-C.

Key specs that matter

Bluetooth 5.4 with the A2DP, BLE and HFP profiles gives a range of about 9 to 10 m, and aptX Adaptive is available with Snapdragon Sound devices. Wired playback works in two ways, as lossless USB-C audio at 16 bit and 44.1 or 48 kHz, or as an analogue connection through the 2.5 mm jack on the headphones with the supplied 3.5 to 2.5 mm cable. The battery lasts up to 30 hours, or 23 hours with the spatial audio mode active. A 15 minute charge gives 3 hours of playback, or 2 hours with spatial audio, and a full charge takes 3 hours. Power input is 5 V DC at 1 A over USB-C. The headphones measure 4.5 x 16.0 x 20.5 cm and weigh about 264 g, or about 481 g with the case.

Engineering and use context

Noise cancellation is adjustable, and the listening modes are Quiet, Aware, Immersion and Cinema. Cinema processes surround content so that dialogue and effects are placed around the listener, and the separate spatial audio mode applies similar processing to stereo sources. CustomTune calibrates the processing to the shape of the wearer's ear. On-head sensors pause playback automatically when the headphones are taken off. Built-in microphones serve for calls as well as for noise cancellation. Over USB-C the audio arrives in digital form without Bluetooth compression, so a laptop or phone with a USB-C port can play CD-resolution files without data reduction. The lithium-ion battery is rechargeable and replaceable, so the headphones can stay in use after the battery ages. The housings combine plastic and aluminium, and the ear cushions are covered in protein leather. The Bose app controls modes and settings. Colours are Black, White Smoke, Midnight Violet, Desert Gold, Driftwood Sand, the exclusive Cherry Chocolate and two KidSuper editions in Midnight Violet and Moonstone Blue. The box contains a carry case, the audio cable and a 1 m USB-C cable.

Pairing

Phones with Snapdragon Sound use aptX Adaptive, while other phones, tablets and computers connect over standard Bluetooth. The analogue cable connects the headphones to in-flight entertainment systems and other devices with a 3.5 mm output.

Alternatives

The Bose QuietComfort Headphones are the lower-priced over-ear model without the spatial audio mode.
