The KPH7 Wireless is the Bluetooth version of Koss' KPH7, a long-running ultra-light on-ear headphone originally designed as an affordable wired model for schools, learning labs and libraries. The wireless edition keeps the same minimal, featherweight frame and closed-back earpieces, and adds a built-in battery, microphone and on-board controls so it works without a cable for everyday music, calls and video.

Key specs that matter

Its closed-back on-ear earpieces carry dynamic drivers rated from 20Hz to 20kHz, 32-ohm impedance and 91dB sensitivity. Battery life reaches up to 18 hours of continuous playback per charge. The original version used Bluetooth 5.0 with micro-USB charging, while later production moved to Bluetooth 5.3 and USB-C, both with a wireless range of around 10 metres. A 3.5mm socket is also provided for wired listening, and the headband is adjustable for different head sizes.

Engineering and use context

The design priority is low weight and simplicity. The frame is among the lightest in Koss' range, so the headphone can be worn for long periods with very little clamping pressure, and the earcups rotate so the headphone folds flat for a bag or pocket. Controls are physical buttons on the earcup for volume, track skipping and taking or rejecting calls, which are easier to operate by feel than touch panels and work reliably with cold or wet hands. An on-board microphone handles hands-free calls and voice assistant commands. Because the drivers are closed-back, sound leakage is limited, which suits offices, classrooms and public transport where open headphones would disturb others. Like the rest of the Koss range, the KPH7 Wireless is covered by the company's limited lifetime warranty in many markets. The wired socket means the headphone keeps working when the battery runs flat.

Pairing

The KPH7 Wireless pairs with any Bluetooth phone, tablet, laptop or smart TV. Through the wired socket it can also be driven from a phone, computer or portable player without an extra amplifier. It is intended for everyday use rather than as part of a hi-fi system, and its low weight makes it a practical second headphone for travel or for children.

Alternatives

Koss' own BT221i is a related Bluetooth model in the brand's affordable wireless range.
