The Endurance Zone is a true wireless sport earphone from JBL that leaves the ear canal open, using the company's OpenSound approach so a runner or cyclist keeps hearing traffic and people nearby. Each bud hangs on an earhook and aims its output toward the ear from outside, and JBL says the directional design keeps leakage low enough for private calls in a gym. It dates from 2025, and black and white versions are sold.

Key specs that matter

The transducer is an oval dynamic unit measuring 18 x 11 mm, rated for 20 Hz to 20 kHz with a 32 ohm impedance, 98 dB SPL sensitivity at 1 kHz and a 90 dB maximum SPL. An adaptive bass boost algorithm runs in the onboard processing. A bud weighs 10.26 g, 20.52 g for both, and the case adds 69.08 g. Each earpiece holds a 58 mAh lithium-ion cell at 3.85 V for up to 8 hours of music or 4 hours of talk, and the 520 mAh, 3.8 V cell in the case supplies another 24 hours, giving 32 in total. A full recharge from empty takes 2 hours, while 10 minutes of speed charging returns 3 hours of play. Power comes in at 5 V and 1 A over USB-C, though the cable is not supplied.

Engineering and use context

The hook is moulded from high-grade liquid silicone over an adaptable memory wire, so it can be bent to the wearer and, according to JBL, resists stretching and twisting after repeated adjustment. The IP68 rating certifies both dust and water protection, and the maker lists sweat, rain, salt water and sand among the conditions the buds can handle, along with heat, high humidity and drops. Buds and case share a scratch-resistant, grippy finish, and the case has a lanyard hole. Four microphones, two beamforming capsules per side, pick up the voice while the algorithm suppresses ambient noise, and a hydrodynamic windproof shape reduces distortion from air friction outdoors. Maximum operating temperature is 45 degrees C.

Pairing

Bluetooth 5.3 carries the link, with A2DP 1.4, AVRCP 1.6.2 and HFP 1.8 profiles and transmit power below 10 dBm EIRP. With multi-point active, the Zone can stay linked to a pair of sources, for example a tablet running a workout video and a phone waiting for calls. Android users get Google Fast Pair for one-tap setup, Google Audio Switch for moving between devices, and Google Finder, which makes a lost bud emit a tone. The JBL Headphones app offers a 10-band equaliser and remaps the touch controls on each earpiece.

Alternatives

For a sealed fit instead of an open one, JBL's Endurance Race TWS offers IP67 protection, Twistlock wings and 30 hours of combined battery with its case.
