The RHA, short for Remton Headphone Amplifier, is a hand-built valve headphone amplifier from Remton Audio, a company based in the Czech Republic and better known for its tube phono stages. At launch it was priced at EUR 2,349.

Key specs that matter

The gain circuit is built around matched ECC82 double triodes. Remton recommends the amplifier for headphones with an impedance from 32 ohm to 600 ohm, and the output is switchable. The chassis measures 386 x 295 x 85 mm and weighs 8 kg.

Engineering and use context

A toroidal mains transformer supplies a DC high voltage supply with soft start, which Remton uses to extend the life of the tubes. A Bliss button on the unit changes the amount of feedback in the circuit, so the owner can choose the setting that suits a given pair of headphones. All input and output sockets have gold plating, and the parts are selected by hand. Parts and labour are guaranteed by Remton for 2 years, while the tubes carry a 90-day warranty.

Alternatives

Remton makes no other headphone amplifier, its catalogue otherwise covers tube phono stages and an MC transformer.
