The T10 10MHz Time Reference is an external master clock made in Switzerland by CH Precision, belonging to its 10 Series. Presented around September 2025, it is the upgrade path for systems built around the C10 Master DAC and C10 Conductor, and CH Precision also recommends it with the D1.5 and D10 transports. It can synchronise equipment from other makers that accepts a 10 MHz reference input.

Key specs that matter

The oscillator is an OCXO with an accuracy of ±20 ppb in internal mode and ±1 ppb at most when the optional GPS module has been locked for one hour. Phase noise is below -105 dBc/Hz at 1 Hz, -125 at 10 Hz, -145 at 100 Hz, -155 at 1 kHz and -165 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz and above. Six individually buffered, transformer-coupled 75 ohm BNC outputs deliver a sine or square wave at 500 mV or 1 V peak to peak. A 50 ohm BNC reference input accepts 5 V TTL signals at 1 PPS or 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 176.4, 192 or 100 kHz, with a maximum deviation of ±0.1 ppm. The mains voltage is selectable between 100, 115 and 230 V at 47 to 63 Hz, and consumption is below 0.5 W in standby, 50 W during warm-up and 40 W in normal operation. The unit measures 440 x 133 x 440 mm and weighs 20 kg. The standard finish is silver, with Anthracite or Champagne as options.

Engineering and use context

An OCXO, or oven-controlled crystal oscillator, keeps its quartz crystal at a constant raised temperature, so its frequency does not drift as the room warms or cools. CH Precision places the oscillator in a solid billet aluminium block for thermal stability and suspends the housing on soft silicone gel to isolate it mechanically, because vibration can disturb a crystal's frequency. The reference is then divided down by an all-digital PLL. Phase noise describes how much the clock's timing fluctuates close to its nominal frequency, and the low figures close to the carrier mean very little slow timing drift reaches the connected DACs and transports. The six outputs are buffered and transformer-coupled individually, so each connected device receives its own isolated signal and devices cannot affect one another. The optional GPS module disciplines the oscillator against satellite time for long-term accuracy.

Pairing

The T10 feeds the clock inputs of CH Precision's C10 Master DAC, C10 Conductor and D1.5 or D10 transports through BNC cables. Up to six devices can be clocked, including third-party converters with matching reference inputs.

Alternatives

The CH Precision T1 10MHz Time Reference is the 1-Series predecessor with the same OCXO and six BNC outputs.
