The Metaxas & Sins Squelette is a reel-to-reel tape transport from the company founded by designer Kostas Metaxas. It is built without pinch rollers, and Metaxas & Sins describes it as the first reel-to-reel transport that uses no pinch roller of any kind.

Engineering and use context

Rather than pressing the tape against the capstan with a rubber roller, the Squelette moves the tape with a dual capstan arrangement. Every motor is direct-driven, so the machine has no rubber parts at all - no belts, idlers or rollers that could harden or wear over time.

Alternatives

Metaxas & Sins also builds the T-RX Tourbillon reel-to-reel tape machine.
