The M330 II is a portable Bluetooth speaker from Edifier, the Chinese audio company, with a retro design featuring piano-key buttons and a two-tone fabric grille. It updates the original M330, launched in China at CNY 849, adding AirPlay 2 over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.4. It was priced at CNY 959, about USD 140.
Key specs that matter
The speaker uses two 1 in silk dome tweeters and a 4 in midrange and bass driver with a wool composite cone, forming a 2.1 system. Two Texas Instruments TAS5805 Class D amplifiers provide 60 W continuous and 120 W peak. Frequency response extends to 40 kHz, and the speaker is certified for Hi-Res Audio in both wired and wireless modes. Bluetooth 5.4 supports LDAC at up to 990 kbps and 24-bit/96 kHz, with connection to two devices at once. AirPlay 2 runs over dual-band Wi-Fi. Wired inputs are AUX and USB audio. The 38.5 Wh battery gives up to 14 hours at medium volume and about 11 hours at high volume. The speaker measures about 249 x 163 x 178 mm.
Engineering and use context
Edifier builds the body as a one-piece enclosure of 12 mm MDF, which is more rigid and less resonant than the plastic used in most portable speakers. The two tweeters cover the treble while the single 4 in driver handles the mid and bass, a layout Edifier describes as a standard 2.1 system in one box. Each TAS5805 Class D amplifier drives its section efficiently, which matters for battery life. The earlier M330 quoted THD+N of 0.03% and a signal-to-noise ratio of 107 dB(A) for this amplifier platform. LDAC transmits more data than SBC or AAC, so compatible Android phones can send high-resolution audio over Bluetooth. AirPlay 2 adds Wi-Fi streaming from Apple devices with multi-room grouping. The Edifier Connect app provides an equaliser, source selection, firmware updates and a timer. A rear carrying handle is hidden in the cabinet. The piano-style buttons on the top control volume and source. Colours are white, brown and black. The battery holds 5,200 mAh.
Pairing
The M330 II connects to phones by Bluetooth, to Apple devices by AirPlay 2 and to computers by USB. It works as a compact speaker for a desk or kitchen.
Alternatives
Edifier's M330 is the original version with Bluetooth 5.3 and without AirPlay 2.
