The Varieta from Chicago-based Ranieri Audio Labs is presented by its maker as the first universal directly heated triode tube preamplifier. It debuted at AXPONA 2025 at a price of USD 7,499.

Key specs that matter

The Varieta accepts many 4-pin medium base DHT tubes, including the 300B, 2A3/6A3, 12A/201A, 26, 30, 31, 45, 50, 71A, 801A/10Y, 275A/252A, 245 and 842/VT52. A Rotare dial on the top panel is turned to the marked position for the fitted tube type, and the circuit reconfigures itself for that tube's operating parameters.

Engineering and use context

Its circuit uses a two-stage, zero-feedback layout with transformer-coupled outputs, so no global feedback is applied to the signal path. Automatic bias removes the need for manual adjustment after a tube change.

Alternatives

Ranieri Audio Labs makes no other preamplifier besides the Varieta.
