The Pre Two is a preamplifier from Alluxity, the Danish brand founded by Alexander Vitus Mogensen, with a background in his family's company Vitus Audio. The UK price was about GBP 9,950.

Key specs that matter

The Pre Two is fully balanced and module based. Streaming covers TIDAL, Qobuz, Spotify, AirPlay and NAS playback through the MCONNECT app, with MQA support. Digital inputs are USB, optical, AES/EBU and S/PDIF, alongside analogue inputs. Volume is relay based in 1 dB steps, from -79 dB to +13 dB in later production, with a -6 dB function for sources with high output. It has input sensitivity selection and an additional balanced output for bi-amping. A 5 in touchscreen manages the inputs. The chassis measures 43.5 x 11.0 x 31.5 cm including connectors and weighs 14 kg. Finishes are black, white, titanium and titanium orange.

Engineering and use context

The Pre Two sits alongside the Pre One, which has a modular architecture with two gain stages per channel and a relay attenuator. The Pre Two fills the gaps that Pre One owners reported, adding digital sources and streaming. Each channel remains fully balanced with upgraded components. The relay-based volume control switches fixed resistors, keeping the channels matched at every step. The -6 dB function lowers the level of sources with high output, so the volume range stays usable. Input sensitivity selection adapts to sources of different output levels. The additional balanced output feeds a second power amplifier for bi-amping or a subwoofer. The chassis is milled from one piece of aluminium and designed for maximum airflow, keeping the unit cool. The MCONNECT app controls both streaming and volume. As with other Alluxity products, the modular layout allows modules to be serviced or upgraded. Early units had a volume range of -69 to +12 dB. Streaming is handled by a Converse Digital module that plays files up to 192 kHz/32-bit. Alluxity belongs to AVA Group A/S of Herning in Denmark, and the Pre Two sits in its current line next to the Int One mkII integrated amplifier and the Power Two and Mono One power amplifiers.

Pairing

The Pre Two pairs with Alluxity's Power Two stereo amplifier or a pair of Mono One monoblocks through balanced XLR. With a power amplifier, speakers and a network connection it forms a complete digital system.

Alternatives

Alluxity's Pre One is the brand's analogue preamplifier without DAC or streaming.
