The TS A75 is a stereo class AB power amp made for Galion Audio, the company run by Thomas Tan of the Thomas & Stereo channel. Galion works with an established OEM manufacturer, while Tan voices each amplifier and has the final word on parts and construction. The maker calls the TS A75 its giant killer and lists it at USD 1,495, with a 2-year parts and labour warranty and a 14-day trial period.

Key specs that matter

Rated RMS output is 75 W per channel into 8 ohms and 100 W per channel into 4 ohms, with a maximum current of 7 A. Frequency response runs from 15 Hz to 40 kHz. THD+N is 0.0085 percent at 4 W, 0.01 percent at 10 W and 0.02 percent at 25 W. Signal-to-noise ratio is 95 dB, the damping factor is 100, gain is given as 33 and input impedance as 33 kOhm. The unit measures 437 x 307 x 159 mm and weighs 17.6 kg, or 19 kg in a shipping carton of 584 x 483 x 330 mm. The 240 V version uses a T5AL250V fuse and the 120 V version a T6.3AL250V, both 5 x 20 mm.

Engineering and use context

Galion describes the TS A75 as a high-current design that favours quality watts over a large power rating. The supply is built around two 200 W toroidal transformers and 20 capacitors that together give 200,000 microfarads of storage for both channels, against roughly 40,000 microfarads that the maker says is typical of affordable amplifiers. The circuit uses current feedback rather than voltage feedback, and it is balanced from the XLR input all the way to the speaker terminals rather than converting the signal internally. A custom chassis with large heat sinks keeps the amplifier running cool, which the company links to longer capacitor life, and the lid is thick enough for a preamplifier to be stacked on top. At the back sit a pair of 5-way binding posts per side, an XLR and an RCA input with a button to choose between them, and an IEC mains inlet, while the front carries a central power button that lights blue.

Pairing

Galion suggests the XLR connection when the interconnect run is long, since the balanced path lowers noise. The same catalogue offers the TS P75 and TS P75C valve preamplifiers at USD 1,995 and USD 2,195, listed under the Galion name.

Alternatives

The Galion Comet is a stereo power amplifier rated at 80 W per channel into 8 ohms and 120 W into 4 ohms, with a single 600 W toroidal transformer and RCA inputs only.
