It is based on a real resistive ladder with a resolution of 24 bits. Each bit is represented by a series of precisely matched resistors (typically 64 for each exponentially weighted bit) arranged in a ring configuration called a PulseAxis array in Rotaxis Audio. This is not just a line of resistors on the board — they are specially intertwined into rings to reduce electromagnetic interference, thermal drift and cross-distortion.
