The Magnetar Audio Ultima is a universal disc and media transport built on the company's MKII platform and housed in two separate chassis. It reads UHD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD, CD, SACD and DVD-Audio discs, plays files from USB media and high-resolution streams from the network, and supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+ video. The list price is USD 12,000.

Key specs that matter

DSD is output as DoP over AES/EBU for an external converter. A single 10 MHz master clock governs timing throughout the player, and a dedicated DC power stage built on BYD lithium cells keeps critical circuits apart from mains noise.

Engineering and use context

The chassis is heavily reinforced against vibration, the internal components are isolated from one another, and grounding and power distribution are tightly controlled. Magnetar also reworked the disc mechanism for steadier reading and better handling of vibration.
