CD / SACD players and transports — Accuphase DP-570

The DP-570 is an integrated SA-CD/CD player from Accuphase, introduced in 2020 to replace the DP-560 of 2016, with a UK price of GBP 10,200. It sits above the CD-only DP-430 and DP-450 and below the DP-750 in the Accuphase disc player range, and a DP-570S variant has since joined the catalogue. Besides playing discs, it works as a converter for external sources through HS-LINK, USB, optical and coaxial inputs.

Key specs that matter

The converter is Accuphase's 4MDS+ circuit based on the ESS ES9028PRO, with an AK4118A digital receiver. The drive plays two-channel SA-CD, CD and DSD discs recorded on DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R and DVD+RW, as well as data discs with WAV, FLAC, DSF and DSDIFF files. HS-LINK Version 1 accepts DSD 2.8 MHz and PCM up to 192 kHz and 24 bit, and Version 2 extends this to DSD 5.6 MHz and PCM 384 kHz at 32 bit. USB takes PCM up to 384 kHz and 32 bit, optical up to 96 kHz and 24 bit, and coaxial up to 192 kHz and 24 bit. Balanced and unbalanced analogue outputs each deliver 2.5 V at 50 ohm. Frequency response is 0.5 Hz to 50 kHz (+0/-3 dB), THD+N 0.0006%, signal to noise ratio 120 dB, dynamic range 117 dB and channel separation 117 dB. The player draws 18 W, measures 465 x 151 x 393 mm and weighs 19.0 kg.

Engineering and use context

In the 4MDS+ arrangement the ES9028PRO outputs are run as four circuits in parallel, which Accuphase says improves distortion and noise by about a factor of two. Five-pole Butterworth low-pass filters follow the converter, and the Direct Balanced Filter gives the balanced and line outputs independent paths. The analogue power supply is a discrete low-noise design, the large transformer has separate analogue and digital windings, and the smoothing capacitors are custom parts. The SA-CD/CD drive rests on a triple-layer bottom plate with four new butyl elastic dampers and is covered by a five-layer bridge. Its tray is machined from an aluminium block and runs on steel shafts, and separate lasers at 655 nm and 790 nm read SA-CD and CD. High-carbon cast-iron insulators support the chassis, and the top plate has an aluminium hairline finish. A digital level control works down to -80 dB in 1 dB steps, and a phase selector, programmable playlists, a voicing equalizer connection and the RC-140 remote are included. Through its HS-LINK, optical and coaxial outputs the DP-570 can also work purely as a transport.

The variable output lets the DP-570 feed a power amplifier directly, and HS-LINK connects it to Accuphase converters and integrated amplifiers with that input.
