Acapella HYPERSPHERE – the Ultimate Ultra High-End Frontier

Test and listening of loudspeakers for 5 million euros

20.06.2025 05:02 | ~3 minutes read

The culmination of decades of research by the renowned Acapella – the complete system (with electronics) Acapella HYPERSPHERE costs 5 million euros, and the speaker systems themselves can be purchased for “only” 3.2 million euros. To reveal the full scale of sound and ideal characteristics, the manufacturer recommends installing Acapella HYPERSPHERE in a room with a ceiling height of 10 meters – however, for future owners of the speakers, this is unlikely to be a problem. Well, let’s study the true pinnacle of uncompromising Ultra High-End design.

Design

In total, five pairs of Acapella HYPERSPHERE speaker systems are planned to be released, so the speakers will soon become a collector’s item. The company has always been famous for its sound mastodons, such as the HYPERION with a 780 mm horn, or the SPHÄRON Excalibur (1050 mm and 580 mm), but Acapella HYPERSPHERE really drives you crazy. The systems are equipped with a proprietary 1700 mm horn with an ultra-light 1.7" driver and achieve a sensitivity of 103 dB at an impedance of 4 - 8 Ohms.

The standard delivery includes a full set of proprietary electronics for Acapella HYPERSPHERE - the equipment is also created by the company itself and guarantees an ideal match for the speakers' requests. Installation in the customer's room is included in the price. It is especially worth noting the Acapella Energèia Amps - which carefully work with the ultra-high sensitivity of the speakers. According to the manufacturer, the only thing you may need after purchasing Acapella HYPERSPHERE is a vinyl record player.

Technology

The complete system, in addition to the horns, includes four bass "towers" with 8 x 15" woofers per channel and achieves a frequency response from 18 to 40,000 Hz. Two five-meter bass units on each side (10 m ceiling height is desirable for installing them one on top of the other, however, parallel placement is also allowed) also use an intelligent concept with a horn load of 24 m2. Low frequencies with this approach will get true realism.

The branded 1.7" driver is responsible for high and mid frequencies, placed in a huge 1.7 meter horn - another square meters of music. The manufacturer proudly calls this system air-to-light sound transmission, hinting at exceptional speed characteristics. Each channel assembled with bass modules weighs 960 kg - almost a ton! Standard finish includes black or white varnish and any color for the horn itself, custom color options are also available.

Since 1978, the company has been experimenting with horn loading, developing a spherical horn in collaboration with the University of Aachen. Today, this technology has reached a new level and Acapella HYPERSPHERE fully implements the principle of a one-point-source on the main frequency spectrum. The 180-degree radiation pattern with an asymmetric horn design eliminates any sound coloration and significantly expands the frequency response - up to seven octaves.

Listening

Studying ultra-expensive acoustic systems is not an easy task. Comparing Acapella HYPERSPHERE with "ordinary" High-End seems pointless - the scale and hyperrealism of the sound here is completely different. It is useless to try to dissect the Acapella HYPERSPHERE feed into its constituent elements - the loudspeakers simply capture you in a whirlpool of music.

Even with a discount on the room at the High End Munich 2025 exhibition, Acapella HYPERSPHERE knocked everyone down – offering a scope and dynamics previously impossible in principle on acoustic systems of any type. Huge sound images and verified stage construction, dynamic bursts that are processed “at the speed of light” – it’s hard to even imagine what result a future owner of the speakers can get by installing the system at home.

Acapella HYPERSPHERE are completely devoid of horn coloring of sound – they reproduce music easily and seamlessly, simply disappearing during operation and leaving the listener alone with pure emotions and experiences.

Conclusions

Acapella HYPERSPHERE is truly a Rubicon in engineering thought. Extraordinary loudspeakers, which, without a doubt, have already been inscribed in the Golden Pantheon of the most daring developments in the field of audio. The case when any assessments make no sense.
