The Verona Neo comes from the German analogue specialist Acoustic Signature and is part of its Neo series, which also covers the Invictus Neo, Ascona Neo, Montana Neo, Thirty Neo, Typhoon Neo, Hurricane Neo, Tornado Neo, Double X Neo, Maximus Neo and Merlin Neo. It is a large chassis design built to carry up to two tonearms.
Key specs that matter
Two integrated AC motors, each fully insulated, drive the platter by belt at 33 1/3 or 45 rpm, and the speed can be trimmed finely. The anodized aluminium platter measures 310 mm across and 50 mm thick, weighs 11 kg and carries eight silencer modules to reduce vibration. It turns on a Dura Turn Diamond bearing whose spindle has a diamond coating. The deck is 544 mm wide, 449 mm deep and 166 mm high, with a total weight of 33 kg, so the platter alone accounts for a third of the mass. Using two motors rather than one spreads the pull on the belt around the platter.
Engineering and use context
Underneath the platter lies a 65 mm thick multi-sandwich of MDF, steel and plywood, with constrained layer damping built into the layers. Its three aluminium feet adjust in height and include gel damping. Motor control is handled outside the plinth by the DMC-20 digital controller, which applies Acoustic Signature's Automatic Vibration Control at level 3 and runs from a multi-voltage supply accepting 100 to 260 V AC at 50 or 60 Hz. The controller box is 24 x 22 x 6 cm and weighs 2.6 kg, allowing placement away from the deck and keeping motor electronics and their transformer away from the cartridge. Up to two armboards can be fitted for tonearms from 9 to 12 inches long. Buyers choose a piano black or makassar chassis, silver or black anodized aluminium parts, and silencers in polished brass or, at extra cost, with 24k gold or chrome plating.
Pairing
The deck is sold without an arm, so a 9 inch or 12 inch tonearm must be added, and the second armboard position lets an owner keep a stereo and a mono cartridge mounted at the same time. Acoustic Signature's own TA-7000 Neo 12 inch arm is one option from the same maker, and a phono stage such as the Tango Apex Neo completes the front end. A rigid rack shelf able to carry the 33 kg deck, with room for the separate controller beside it, is needed.
Alternatives
The Acoustic Signature Invictus Neo belongs to the same Neo family and is the bigger deck for buyers who want more mass than the Verona Neo.
