The ULTRA XL is the middle model in the ULTRA turntable range from the Russian brand Premiera, sitting between the analogue-only ULTRA X and the ULTRA XXL with its USB recording output. Its price was 21,800 roubles. Unlike the entry version, it has an internal moving magnet preamplifier together with a Bluetooth 5.3 transmitter, with finishes of matte black, matte white or walnut-effect PVC.

Key specs that matter

A belt links the DC servo motor to the platter, with 33.3 and 45 rpm selectable and wow and flutter no greater than 0.25 percent under DIN 45507 and IEC 60386. Arm geometry gives 224.2 mm of effective length, with the pivot set 208.2 mm from the spindle. It carries an Audio-Technica AT3600L moving magnet cartridge, a conical-tip design, and the recommended downforce is 2.2 to 3.5 g. Engineering and use context

Counterweight and anti-skating are adjustable, and a clear lid that can be taken off protects the deck. Gross weight in the shipping carton is 7.0 kg, and the platter is made to be lifted off for belt access. The motor stops automatically at the end of a record, although lowering the arm onto the disc is done manually. Premiera kept the mechanical design identical across the series, so the XL gains its extra flexibility solely from its added circuitry, while the arm and drive stay unchanged.

Pairing

With the preamplifier active, the ULTRA XL plugs into an AUX or other line socket of an integrated amplifier, receiver or pair of powered speakers. The Bluetooth link can send the signal to wireless speakers or headphones, which lets the deck work without any cables to a separate system. Those who already own a dedicated phono preamplifier may bypass the built-in circuit and use theirs instead.
