The TT-Two Deluxe is the middle turntable in the three-model range from Audio Note UK, placed between the single-motor TT-One and the TT-Three. The number in the name refers to the count of drive motors, and Audio Note describes the deck as a step beyond the TT-One, intended especially for use with one of its own tonearms. It is supplied as a bare deck with a Perspex lid, so the arm, cartridge and phono stage are bought separately.
Key specs that matter
Two opposed AC motors of the 24-pole precision high-torque type sit on an anti-vibration assembly and turn a low-mass acrylic platter through a precision-moulded rubber belt of round section. Playback is manual at 33 and 45 rpm. Power draw is 3.3 VA, with versions wired for 240 V 50 Hz in the UK or 110 V 60 Hz in the US. The spindle to pivot distance for arm mounting is 220 mm. The plinth measures 170 mm high, 470 mm wide and 360 mm deep including feet and lid. Standard finishes are Black Ash, Rosewood and Cherry, with satin or high-gloss paint and other real wood veneers offered at extra cost.
Engineering and use context
Audio Note builds all its decks around four principles - a suspended chassis to block vibration from the speakers and the room, a light platter that stores less energy picked up from the stylus, a high-torque AC drive that holds speed through heavily modulated grooves, and a mix of materials with differing mass and resonance to steer energy away from the cartridge. Here a full plinth carries an aluminium sub-chassis on a three-point suspension, and that sub-chassis holds both the bearing and the arm. The bearing combines a sintered and polished shaft running in a brass tube with a hardened thrust plate and a precision-ground steel ball. Using a pair of motors doubles the available torque compared with one, and because they pull from opposite sides they also steady the suspended assembly. Audio Note pair-matches every set of motors so that both behave identically.
Pairing
The natural arm is the Audio Note Arm Three/II, a captured unipivot design that fits the original Rega arm board layout, and one factory package couples it with the IQ1 moving-magnet cartridge, an uprated Goldring design with higher-grade copper coils. A separate TT One/Two power supply from Audio Note is available as an upgrade to the internal mains drive.
Alternatives
The Audio Note TT-Three moves up to three motors whose speed is locked by a digitally synthesised frequency from an external control unit and adds 78 rpm playback.
