The Fluance RT87 is a belt-drive turntable from the Canadian company Fluance, introduced in June 2026 as part of its Reference Series. It was priced at USD 799.99 in the United States and USD 699.99 internationally, and ships in natural walnut, piano white and piano black. Buyers choose between two factory-fitted moving magnet cartridges, the Audio-Technica AT-VM95ML with a microlinear stylus or the Ortofon 2M Blue.

Key specs that matter

Speeds of 33 1/3, 45 and 78 rpm are supported, and an auto-stop function halts the motor once a side ends. Wow and flutter is 0.06%, weighted signal-to-noise ratio is 71 dB and rumble is below -58 dBA. The 30 cm acrylic platter weighs 1.85 kg and is 22 mm thick. Effective arm length is 230 mm. The deck measures 16 cm high, 42 cm wide and 36.2 cm deep and weighs 9.5 kg. In the 2M Blue version the cartridge delivers 5.5 mV through a nude-mounted stylus of 0.71 x 0.31 mil, with a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz within +2/-1 dB.

Engineering and use context

The chassis uses a dual-plinth layout. The motor and electronics sit on the lower plinth, while the platter, spindle and tonearm are carried on an upper plinth that rests on precision conical isolators, so motor vibration has a longer and more broken path to the stylus. Both plinths are dense wood to damp resonance. A DC motor with a servo controller checks its speed 500 times a second, and the published speed variation is 0.08% at 33, 0.06% at 45 and 0.01% at 78 rpm. Drive passes through a round, joint-free rubber belt. The platter has an anti-static coating. The one-piece carbon fibre tonearm is a static balanced straight design with a removable headshell for later cartridge changes, and its vertical tracking angle can be raised or lowered over a 6 mm range.

Pairing

Fluance fits no phono preamplifier, USB output or Bluetooth, so the RT87 must go into an amplifier with an MM phono input, or an outboard phono preamp has to sit between its gold-plated Tiffany-style RCA outputs and a line input. Fluance sells packages that combine the deck with its own PA10 phono preamp and Ri71 powered bookshelf speakers, so a buyer can assemble a working setup with no integrated amplifier at all. The removable headshell also lets an owner move later to a moving coil cartridge, in which case the phono stage has to offer MC gain.

Alternatives

The Fluance RT82 is a lower-priced belt-drive turntable from the same Reference Series.
