Sony designed the PS-LX5BT as a one-button automatic record player that combines belt drive, an internal phono preamplifier and a Bluetooth transmitter. It arrived in early 2026 as the successor to the PS-LX310BT, which Sony had launched in April 2019, and it was priced at GBP 399 in the UK and USD 499.99 in the US. It is a redesign of the older model rather than a new platform, and Sony labels its wireless link as Hi-Res Wireless Audio.
Key specs that matter
The motor runs at 33 1/3 or 45 rpm and the deck plays 7-inch and 12-inch records, with a 45 adapter included. The platter is die-cast aluminium topped with a rubber mat. A straight aluminium tube tonearm with a J-shaped headshell end runs on a precision pivot bearing and carries a pre-fitted moving magnet cartridge with an ATN3600L-type stylus, set at the factory to a tracking force of 2.0 g, plus or minus 0.5 g. Wireless output supports SBC, aptX and aptX Adaptive, the last one at up to 48 kHz. The plinth measures 430 x 117 x 366 mm and the whole unit weighs 3.6 kg with its lid fitted.
Engineering and use context
One button starts playback - the arm lifts, moves to the lead-in groove, lowers, and returns to its rest at the end of the side. This makes the PS-LX5BT a deck for listeners who want records without handling the arm or setting up a cartridge, since alignment and tracking force are done before shipping. The internal phono stage is switchable, so the rear RCA sockets deliver either line level for any amplifier input or a phono-level signal for an external preamplifier. A gain selector with three positions adjusts the output so that the turntable can be matched to the level of other sources. The RCA jacks are gold-plated and the supplied interconnect is detachable, which allows a better cable to be fitted later. A hinged, clear dust cover can be taken off completely, and mains power enters through a USB-C type connector at the back.
Pairing
In line mode the turntable connects to a powered speaker pair, a soundbar with analogue input or the AUX socket of an integrated amplifier without a separate phono box. Owners who already have a moving magnet phono stage can bypass the internal one and use the phono setting. For wireless listening, headphones or speakers with aptX Adaptive make the best use of the transmitter, while SBC covers older Bluetooth devices.
Alternatives
The Sony PS-LX310BT is the earlier fully automatic belt-drive deck with Bluetooth whose place in the line-up the PS-LX5BT has now taken.
