The Model 60 is a high-mass turntable from British maker SME, supplied with the company's Series VA tonearm and two outboard units for speed control and power. Motion comes from a bespoke two-phase AC synchronous motor, and the speed control unit uses a DSP engine to produce two independent pure sine waves, while the power transformer sits in its own enclosure. The Series VA arm is a non-metallic design CNC machined from polymer resin, with an effective mass of 10 to 11 g, a cartridge balance range of 5 to 18 g and tracking force adjustable up to 3 g. Its maximum tracking error is 0.012 degrees per mm, Crystal Cable 0.1 mm Mono X-Tal wire runs inside, and SME describes the arm as acoustically inert with a much reduced resonance signature.

Pairing

The arm's effective mass suits low and medium compliance moving-coil cartridges, and these call for a phono stage offering plenty of gain. The speed control unit measures 170 x 295 x 87 mm and the power unit 190 x 243 x 83 mm, so the support needs room for them beside the deck.
