The Helix Two Mk3 is a belt-driven turntable from Dohmann Audio, sitting above the Helix One Mk3 in the range and also offered as a Helix Two Mk3 Vacuum version. It pairs a heavy main chassis with a separate external DC power supply. The UK list price is GBP 46,000, and the deck is available in Black, Sterling Silver or Graphite, and also in a gold option called Aurelian Gold, with a carbon fibre top plate as an option.

Key specs that matter

The factory default speeds are 33 and 45 rpm, and 78 rpm or other custom speeds can be set at the buyer's request. Speed is recalibrated more than 130,000 times per second to hold 33.33 or 45.15 rpm, and it can be adjusted with two push buttons on the rear of the chassis. The deck measures 480 x 400 x 200 mm and weighs 38 kg, while the power supply is 480 x 390 x 55 mm and weighs 5 kg. The supply accepts 100 to 250 V AC at 50 or 60 Hz and adapts automatically.

Engineering and use context

Rotation comes from a decoupled, high torque Swiss-made unit integrated in the chassis, and it turns the platter through two belts to reduce static and vibration, a scheme Dohmann calls High Torque Adjustable Drive. Isolation is built around a Negative Stiffness Mechanism system from Minus K, described as a mechanical crossover that dissipates mid and high frequency vibration, together with Resonance Tuned Suspension and RSA resonance control. The Tri-Modal Platter runs on a bearing treated with a diamond-like coating of amorphous material to modify friction. An Edge Damping Ring and a Tone arm Damping System add further control of resonance. Dohmann groups the isolation approach under the name Mechanical Crossover Technology, and each element carries its own abbreviation, from NSM and RTS to TDS and EDR, while the bearing treatment is listed as DLC and the platter as TMP. Two Advanced Composite Armboards are included, made with a ballistics grade energy absorbing material, and they are removable and interchangeable so a second arm can be prepared in advance.

Pairing

The armboard takes one tonearm up to 292 mm, and some 12 inch arms can also be fitted. Dohmann offers its own tonearms, cartridges and an RSA record clamp, so the deck can be completed from one maker or matched to an arm from another brand. A low noise phono stage suited to the chosen cartridge completes the chain.
