The Bayadere 1 is a belt drive turntable made by Auris Audio of Serbia, made entirely from solid aluminium and supplied with the 9 inch W9 carbon tonearm. Auris describes it as a well balanced design built around vibration isolation, with precise leveling feet and an isolated main bearing. The standard finish is black only, while further colours are available to order. Auris lists it at EUR 2,999 including tax.

Key specs that matter

Speeds of 33.3 and 45 rpm are selected manually, and speed may vary by no more than 0.11% in either direction. The 299 mm platter is aluminium. Auris lists the main bearing parts as a ceramic ball, a bronze cylinder and a Widia plate. The W9 is a gimbal arm with an effective mass of 12 g, an overhang of 17 mm, a tilt angle of 24 degrees and a tracking force window of 5 to 40 mN. Cartridge compliance should be between 6 and 14 g. The motor runs on AC 24 V. The deck measures 385 x 300 x 112 mm and weighs 12 kg.

Engineering and use context

The main bearing is built into an isolated case shielded by a set of resilient rubber rings. Its housing is stainless steel with an incorporated bronze cylinder, and the support below uses a ceramic ball on a Widia tile with a hardness above 80 Rockwell, which Auris says keeps operation almost silent and needs minimal lubrication. The sub platter is high quality aluminium with a cemented carbide metal plate for longevity, and a bronze main hub central bearing adds durability. The synchronous AC motor is chosen for speed accuracy and stability, and it can be upgraded later by adding electronic speed control. The arm is made from carbon fibre and milled aluminium, is wired with Van den Hull cable and offers full adjustability including precise azimuth adjustment. Custom made rubber feet of a special compound reduce outside vibration and can be adjusted in height for a perfectly horizontal position of the main platter.

Pairing

The 12 g effective mass and the 6 to 14 g compliance range define which cartridges the W9 is specified to carry. Lacking internal phono amplification, the deck needs RIAA gain from the amplifier or an external stage.
