The VP 100P is a phono preamplifier from Venture Audio, a company founded in 1986 that designs and makes its own drivers and electronics. It is a separate phono stage for moving-magnet and moving-coil cartridges, built around a current-generator design that adapts to many cartridges. It sits in Venture's electronics range alongside the VP200D preamplifier and V200A+ amplifier.

Engineering and use context

Venture describes the VP 100P as designed as a current generator, which allows it to adapt itself to numerous cartridges. A current-driven input stage is less sensitive to the cartridge's impedance than a conventional voltage input, which helps with the wide range of source impedances found across MM and MC cartridges. Venture's electronics also include integrated amplifiers such as the IS-10 and IS-1000, which combine streaming, DAC and phono stages. The phono stage is directly linked to the RIAA equalisation stage, which, according to Venture, keeps the path between gain and equalisation short for the sake of linearity. The MC section serves moving-coil cartridges of low output, and the MM section brings a typical moving-magnet cartridge up to line level. The low DC offset protects the following preamplifier from DC at its input. MM and MC use fully separate circuits that share no connectors or components, the boards are Teflon, and a separate external chassis houses the power supply for magnetic isolation. The RIAA feedback is almost constant across the audio band. With two inputs, the VP 100P can take two turntables or two arms, carrying MM and MC cartridges respectively. Venture's loudspeakers use drivers with its own carbon fibre and abaca graphite composite cones. The abaca composite draws on vibration-absorption ideas from military applications, according to the company.

The VP 100P matches Venture's VP200D preamplifier in size and finish. Its line-level output feeds any line preamplifier or integrated amplifier with ease, whether from Venture or another maker.
