The Mani 2 is the second-generation Schiit Audio phono stage, launched more than six years after the original Mani and priced at USD 149 in black. It accepts MM, MC and MI cartridges according to Schiit. Chassis production is in California, the boards in California or Nevada, and assembly takes place in Corpus Christi. Key specs that matter

Two input and output switches choose among four gain steps. At 33 dB THD is below 0.0003%, SNR above 108 dB and sensitivity 5.3 mV for 300 mV output. The default 42 dB step, set with the input switch high and the output switch low, gives THD below 0.0006%, SNR above 98 dB and 1.9 mV sensitivity. At 48 dB THD stays below 0.001%, SNR above 96 dB and sensitivity 1.06 mV, while the 60 dB step reaches 0.33 mV sensitivity with THD below 0.0015% and SNR above 87 dB. All SNR and THD figures are A-weighted referenced to 2 V RMS, overload margin exceeds 20 dB in every mode and crosstalk ranges from -90 dB at the lower gains to -75 dB at the highest. Resistive loading is 47 kohm, 200 ohms, 47 ohms or 38 ohms, and capacitive loading 47, 100, 150 or 200 pF. RIAA accuracy is within 0.2 dB from 20 Hz to 20 kHz and output impedance is 75 ohms.

Engineering and use context

The fully passive RIAA network is built from 0.1% thin-film resistors and 2% film capacitors and sits between OPA1612 gain stages. Unlike the capacitor-coupled first Mani, the Mani 2 runs DC-coupled with an OP07 DC servo. A new switchable passive CR filter with one or two poles centred at 15 Hz rolls off at 6 or 12 dB per octave to help with warped records, and it ships bypassed. Supply comes from a wall-wart style 16 VAC transformer, dual-filtered and regulated to plus and minus 16 V rails - 32 V in total against 10 V on the original, which Schiit says gives more headroom. Power consumption is 4 W. Schiit credits a lower-impedance RIAA network for noise roughly 10 to 15 dB below the Mani. The case measures 127 x 89 x 32 mm and weighs 0.45 kg.

Pairing

Factory settings are aimed at plug-and-play use with starter turntables and moving magnet cartridges, and the higher gain steps together with the lowest resistive loads cover low-output moving coil types. Its low-impedance output feeds a line-level amplifier, preamp or headphone amp input.
