The EH is a high-output moving coil phono cartridge from HANA, part of the E series together with its low-output twin, the EL. The H in the name marks the high-output version, intended as an upgrade path for owners of basic moving magnet cartridges without requiring a dedicated moving coil phono stage. The model has since been replaced by the EH MK II, with the original listed as discontinued in September 2026.

Key specs that matter

Output is 2 mV at 1 kHz, with channel balance within 2 dB and separation of 25 dB at 1 kHz. A synthetic elliptical stylus is fitted to an aluminium cantilever. Internal impedance is 130 ohms and the suggested load is 47 kohm, the standard moving magnet input value. Frequency response spans 15 Hz to 25,000 Hz. Recommended vertical tracking force is 2 g, and trackability is rated at 70 micrometres at that force. The body weighs 5 g and stands 15 mm tall, finished in moss green.

Engineering and use context

HANA uses a cross-coil generator, in which the coils are wound on a cross-shaped former at the rear of the cantilever. The relatively high output of this moving coil design is what lets it be plugged straight into a moving magnet phono input of the kind built into many integrated amplifiers and AV receivers, with no step-up transformer or extra gain stage in between. Because the recommended load matches the usual moving magnet setting, no loading plugs or resistor changes are required on such inputs. Its low mass and moderate tracking force place it within the working range of most medium-mass tonearms, and the body height is useful when checking vertical tracking angle, since arm height may need adjusting relative to a previously mounted cartridge. The elliptical profile is the simpler of the tip shapes in the HANA line, with more advanced profiles reserved for the higher series. The cartridge carries a two-year warranty.

Pairing

A phono input designed for moving magnet cartridges with standard loading is a direct match, whether built into an integrated amplifier or housed separately. Phono stages offering only high-gain moving coil inputs will receive more level than they need, so the moving magnet setting is the better choice. A turntable with a detachable headshell or standard two-hole mount accepts the body with ordinary mounting screws.
