The TruStream is a network music player with a built-in DAC from Leak, the British brand whose current range also includes the Stereo 130 and Stereo 230 amplifiers and the CDT transport. It went on sale in March 2026 at a recommended EUR 1,199, and Leak lists it at USD 1,495 in the United States. Its streaming engine comes from a joint project with Silent Angel, a company that specialises in low-noise digital audio transmission, and the case follows the walnut cabinet styling of the other Leak components.

Key specs that matter

Leak fitted an ESS Sabre ES9038Q2M 32-bit chip for digital to analogue conversion. The DAC accepts PCM from 44.1 kHz to 768 kHz and DSD up to DSD512, with DSD512 reserved for the PC USB input and DSD256 available via DoP. Supported files include DSF, DIFF, FLAC, ALAC, WAV, AIFF, APE, MP3, AAC, WMA and OGG. The analogue section offers variable-level RCA and XLR outputs reaching 2.05 Vrms and 4.1 Vrms respectively. Leak quotes THD under 0.001% at 1 kHz, signal-to-noise above 116 dB on RCA and above 120 dB on XLR, and a response within 0.5 dB from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. Output impedance is 120 ohm on RCA and 56 ohm on XLR. The unit measures 330 x 118 x 278 mm and weighs 6.5 kg.

Engineering and use context

Beyond Roon Ready certification, the TruStream handles TIDAL Connect, Spotify Connect and Qobuz Connect, plus AirPlay 2, TuneIn and internet radio. Music stored on the network is reached through DLNA and SMB/CIFS shares, and two USB-A ports play files from drives. Connection to the network is by Wi-Fi or gigabit Ethernet. According to Leak, the Silent Angel platform was designed for stable network performance, precise clocking and low-jitter data handling. Incoming material can be upsampled automatically to 352.8 kHz or 384 kHz before conversion. A USB-C port takes a computer as a source. The headphone output uses a current feedback amplifier with 2.35 ohm output impedance and drives loads from 20 to 600 ohm with under 0.01% THD at 50 mW. Control is through the Leak TruStream app for iOS and Android or the supplied remote, and standby draw is below 0.5 W.

Pairing

Leak designed the TruStream to match the Stereo 130 and Stereo 230 integrated amplifiers in look and connections. For owners who prefer an outboard converter, optical and coaxial outputs pass up to 24-bit/192 kHz at 75 ohm, and two further USB-A sockets send audio to a USB DAC.

Alternatives

Leak offers no other network streamer, as the TruStream is the only streaming source in its current range.
