The N200 is a digital output network transport and music server from Aurender, the Seoul-based audio brand run as a division of TVLogic, a South Korean maker of professional video monitors. It is the updated form of the N100SC and sits a step above the N150 in the Aurender range, adding a larger screen, a second digital output and a better clock. Its US price is USD 7,900, and it is made in black and in silver. The N200 contains no DAC and has no analogue outputs.

Key specs that matter

Processing is handled by a low-power Intel quad-core chip with 8 GB of system memory and a 240 GB NVMe drive for the operating system and music cache. Two 2.5 inch bays take user-installed HDDs or SSDs of up to 8 TB each, and USB drives and NAS storage are supported too. Aurender quotes the USB audio output at up to 32-bit and 768 kHz PCM, DSD512 native and DSD256 over DoP, while the coaxial S/PDIF output carries PCM up to 24-bit and 192 kHz and DSD64 via DoP. The aluminium case measures 330 x 96 x 355 mm, 84 mm tall without feet, and weighs 8.8 kg. A 6.9 inch IPS colour LCD with 1280 x 480 pixels shows album art and track data.

Engineering and use context

The output clock is a TCXO, a crystal oscillator with temperature compensation, whose rate drifts less with heat than the standard clocks of general-purpose computers, which reduces jitter at the digital outputs. A critical listening mode can switch off the screen and background tasks. Chosen music is copied to the silent solid-state cache before playback, after which the main drives are put to sleep so that nothing moves or spins while music plays. The linear supply uses two 35 W sections, and super-capacitors act as an internal UPS to protect data during a power cut. The chassis is machined from aluminium, and the network port is a double-isolated gigabit connection. Consumption is 15 W in playback, 35 W at peak and 5.1 W on standby. Rear data ports are two USB 3.0 sockets. Control is through the Aurender Conductor app for iOS and Android, with TIDAL, Qobuz, internet radio, Spotify Connect and AirPlay available and MQA core decoding offered as an in-app purchase.

Any external DAC with a USB audio or coaxial input can follow the N200, including DAC preamplifiers and integrated amplifiers with built-in converters.

The Aurender N20 uses an OCXO clock with a master clock input and adds AES/EBU, BNC and optical outputs.
