The Heritage R100 is a streaming integrated amplifier from YBA, the French electronics maker, which calls it a Streaming Music Center. Part of the Heritage range, it was released in February 2020 at EUR 4,000. It combines a stereo power amplifier, a DAC with two converter chips, a network streamer, Bluetooth and analogue inputs including phono in one chassis, controlled through a touchscreen or a remote control.
Key specs that matter
Output is 2 x 100 W into 8 ohm at 0.05% THD+N. The DAC section uses two AKM AK4495SEQ chips, each capable of 32 bit and 768 kHz, and the R100 handles sample rates from 32 kHz to 384 kHz at 16, 24 and 32 bit, as well as DSD64 and DSD128, with DSD up to 5.6 MHz through USB-B. Analogue inputs are phono, CD and AUX. Digital inputs are coaxial, optical, USB-B for a computer, USB host for storage and Bluetooth 4.2 with LDAC. Outputs include gold-plated RCA, balanced XLR and a headphone output. Signal to noise ratio is 98 dB at the speaker outputs and 107 dB at the line outputs, and THD is 0.05% at the speaker outputs and 0.001% at the line outputs. The unit measures 430 x 118 x 399 mm and weighs 9.2 kg, in black or silver.
Engineering and use context
Power comes from a linear supply built around a high-performance transformer, not from a switch-mode unit. Using two AK4495SEQ chips allows one converter per channel, keeping the left and right conversion separate. Streaming services built in are Tidal, Spotify, Qobuz and Deezer, and AirPlay is supported over LAN or WLAN. File playback covers AIFF, WAV, FLAC, MP3, WMA and AAC. The firmware is updated over the network. A 130 x 71 mm TFT touchscreen on the front shows the source and track information and gives access to settings. The balanced XLR and RCA line outputs let the R100 drive a separate power amplifier or active speakers, or feed a subwoofer, while its own amplifier drives the main speakers. LDAC support on Bluetooth carries higher data rates from compatible Android phones than standard codecs. The USB-B input lets a computer use the R100 as an external DAC.
Pairing
Its power output drives most bookshelf and floorstanding speakers of average sensitivity in a room of about 20 m2. Records play through the built-in phono input, and a CD player or transport uses the analogue CD input or a digital input.
